Thumbs Up!

Pound the rock.
Knock on the door.
Whatever you do don’t give up!

I don’t care if you’re a voice over talent standing at your mic recording your thirteenth audition for the day or training for your first 5K, discouragement, defeat and plain old negative self-talk stand in the way of future success.

Recently, I had a conversation with a young man facing some big decisions in his life. I encouraged him to go for his dreams. To work toward a career he’ll enjoy because there’s nothing better than getting paid for what you do best. Sadly, he seemed hesitant on pursuing that path because it would be challenging and require change in his life.

You’ve heard it before and it’s true, “Nothing worthwhile is ever easy.”

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could talk to ourselves on the other side of success? We might not be tempted to stop working toward our goals before they’re achieved.

Right now, list a few of your goals and practical steps you can begin taking today to get there. Next, list at least five goals you’ve accomplished in your lifetime. Were they easily obtained? Do you remember a point where you almost gave up? What was your mindset when you decided to press on? The tipping point so to speak.

Read the following paragraph and fill in the blank with your goal:

“Everybody, I know you can believe in yourself.
If you believe in yourself you will learn how to ______.
If you don’t, you just keep practicing.
You will get the hang of it. I know it!
If you keep practicing, you’ll get the hang of it and then, you can get better and better at it and you’ll do it!
Thumbs up, Everybody and Rock n’ Roll!”

Pretty good motivation, don’t you think?
I like the part that says, “If you keep practicing, you’ll get the hang of it and then you can get better and better at it and you’ll do it!”

Often it’s the cumulative day-to-day grind that wears us down. However, that same day-to-day grind usually brings us closer to success. One thing’s for sure, we’ll never get there by taking the easy path and giving up.

Wondering who’s behind the motivational quote above? You might be surprised. Watch the video below.

Thumbs up, Everybody and rock n’ roll!
